A little story about me and Inflation:
First of all I have to tell you something about the economic situation of Turkey before 2005. The "Lira", the local currency, was weak. Very weak.
Turkey was close to state bankruptcy. Anyway they got help, a lot of things changed, bla bla, and 2005 they got a new currency, "New Lira". And THAT time one New Lira was exactly worth one million old Lira. As you imagine, after that people still were used to say "one million Lira" to things that just cost one Lira. Later they got a new normal Lira again. I cant exactly describe it, but still today they often say "one million Lira" to things that cost one Lira.
Anyway. Now Imagine little Enes in 2005 in Turkey being on holidays and not knowing anything about the changes. I got one Lira from my parents to buy some snacks for myself. I went to a shop and asked how much these potato chips cost.
He replied "One million Lira." And I was so confused. Like wtf ? In Germany it was way cheaper!! I looked at my hand and only had this one Lira coin. I thought somehow he must be joking or trying to trick me 👀👀. I did show my hand and just said "Is this enough ??" And he said yes and took my money and I took the potato chips. And after I left the store I thought Im the coolest badass in the city😎😂😂. "WOOUW this guy just sold his potato chips for so much cheaper haha!"
After some years someone explained me everything and since then I will never forget this story.😂😄😄
