With numbers like this everyone knows someone suffering with mental illness and no matter your ideas of if we label to many things or medicate to much, a lot are suffering and it's important that we fight stigma around mental illness.
I have Depression, I recently started therapy online a few weeks ago with an app (sister site to Better Help, ik they aren't loved but it helps me) "Depression Therapy" and my therapist has been really great. My Depression is routed in childhood events that revolve around my alcoholic father.
So if you're dealing with depression it may be very different from mine, every case is different and some are chemical imbalances.
Here's some ways to tell if you are suffering from Depression.

It's important to take care of yourself.
It can seem like there's no purpose in the life of someone dealing with Depression but there is always a purpose. Things are always changing for better and for worse, things will get better but if we end our life then we guarantee it doesn't get better in our lives and we severely impact others.
I've never been suicidal, and that's something that many question because I have Depression and all the other symptoms. My uncle committed suicide when I was 4 years old and I still remember the police showing up at the door and my mother crying every year on the anniversary of his death, or going silent missing him.
Suicide is never a solution.
Everyone's heard it 100 times but that's because it's true. You want your pain to end, not your life. Everything is temperary and that includes pain. If you or someone you love needs help there are helplines for crisis scenarios.
