Tiger killing: Prowling anti-national animals

The defence that actor Salman Khan should have used in court when charged with poaching two blackbucks in 1998 is that the animals had charged at him, so he had to kill them in ‘self-defence’.

Considering that Maharashtra forests minister Sudhir Mungantiwar has used pretty much such an argument as an excuse to issue orders to shoot dead a ‘man-killing’ tiger — after all attempts to traquilise the animal had apparently failed — Salman Khan would probably have got away like a startled antelope. On November 3, the Maharashtra Forest Department had released a photo of the corpse of the tiger, ‘T1’, or Avni, after the animal had apparently killed 13 people living on the fringes of the forest area.
