Why do you work where you work, aside from the pay? Would you do something else if you didn't have to worry about money?

For me, there's not much else. The work is fairly easy for what I get paid. I'm trying to support my sister through college, although it's not a lot.

I've come to like the job more though, but it's largely because of the coworkers. So I think I won't change doing what I do, at least not for a while.

I work part time as a cashier for a grocery store. I've been there 3 years. Currently I'm on leave while away for university but I'll be working summers and likely Christmas holidays. I work there because it's close to home and we always shopped there, plus my mother used to work there. I like my colleagues but customers are awful.

I work to pay off my small debt to my parents and to save for whatever. I literally only work there for the pay, but I'm also fairly new. If I didn't have to worry about money, I'd become a indie hacker and web developer

If I didn’t have to worry about money I think I would probably still work at my job. Libraries are a happy place for me. Even when shit gets weird, which is often.

That is surprising. I thought libraries would be mostly calm and without random weird events. Do you have any examples you'd like to share?
Steph
Philo 0316, funny I see this question today. Guy was shouting into his phone and one of the clerks told him to take his conversation outside — he got loud and ugly with her, our head librarian told him to leave, he said Fuck you, motherfuckers (etc etc), left, and then threw his empty pint bottle at the glass front door, shattering it. I’ll probably post a card tomorrow.

I am doing what I do for the experience, money, and because I liked it. I like what I do but would rather do it with a different population.

Do you mind sharing what you do?

Philo 0316, I am a behavior analyst, and work with special needs children. I would rather work with adults, specifically other veterans returning home that are having trouble. I do like working with children, but working with veterans is what drew me to this field.

Hyde, that makes sense. Thank you for sharing.
