Does it bother you that there are parts of your life you don't remember? You have done and said things you are not aware of anymore.

This means you don't have an accurate representation of yourself because you don't even fully know who you are

However, something that you have forgotten about could be a prominent memory in someone else's mind...

It only bothers me that I didn't have a say in what my mind kept versus what my mind let go. Forgetting parts of my life is ok for me. It's the lack of choice that's frustrating.

i think you chose not to think about some things... then, your brain eventually puts them in the redundant file. Like not used in the last 3 months, put it in the back.

Yep, recently talked on Sola about lasting impressions you can have on your kids by saying or doing something, while it wasn’t noteworthy to yourself.

I feel like these two things are very different. Being unaware of how you affected someone and having a memory unwillingly fade away over time are completely different topics to me.

True, but it does relate to the last fold

Cat Woman, the three dots always make me wonder.

Mx. Goat, Oh. What about two dots?

Cat Woman, how about one? Nice and to the point 😊
Cat Woman
Mx. Goat, I was just wondering what effect two would have on you. I had no intention on having you curate my comments. 😊

Cat Woman, more dots means something unsaid is hanging in the air. Can’t be anything good after an ‘I see’. 😬
Cat Woman
Mx. Goat, you're right. It means "I hate you." BYYYYYYEEEEE! 😜 It doesn't mean anything specific. Maybe more that I'm acknowledging and processing what you're saying but it's better not to say more? I think that's what I mean by that.

Cat Woman, lol okay. It feels like ‘I see (NOT!!1!)’. Makes me doubt myself. 😔😆

Mx. Goat, Oh. Hm. I didn't think of it that way. I'll try to keep that in mind.😊

I forget nothing.

I disagree. It isn’t important to remember all the details from the past. I’m the person who I’m right now in this moment. My focus is on the future because I can’t change the past anyway.

You live in the now, however there are people whose only perception of you live in the past, whose version of you you don't even know existed. I have a future card in the works based on this concept

2wieback, I am with you on that strategy. It's not easy to do but very worthwhile. I have forgotten a lot of the past. There might be some value to being able to recall details but I'm not going to invest time in it. I remember the people that matter to me and a lot of special moments. We have never done anything when it wasn't now!

I used to have blackouts when I was a teen. Those bother more than memories that are foggy or forgotten.

I don't have to remember everything I've ever said to know who I am today. I just need to know what I believe now. We constantly change, and if we don't we have a serious problem.

Some people have a deficient memory that lets them remember everything in their life. And those people generally don't like it, they remember every small detail, every mistake they have made, every memory that our brain keeps away to prevent us from overthinking them. It's a good thing that we don't remember everything. However I can't say anything about how something unimportant for us might be prominent in someone else's memory...

Yes, you took the words right out of my keyboard. ;-) We wouldn’t want to remember every mundane detail. But everything we do, say, think and feel leaves a trace in our brains. It’s not lost. Some memories are retrievable and some aren’t, but they are all part of who we are in the present.

Nina One, sometimes it's hard to think it's still in your head when you have lethologia 😂

Just another guy, tell me about it!! No, I know it’s in there; it just won’t come out!
Nina One
Just another guy, all the words I forget when I need them; isn’t that what you’re referring to?

Just another guy, 😂
Super
I wish I could forget more stuff.

It’s really common for one person to forget something they did that made a big impression on others. Even repeatedly. Some people are experts at compartmentalizing. For instance, they might set aside their angry outbursts as unimportant, and even forget about them, while their children remember each one vividly.

[I don't know much about psychology and I'm about to work fantasy]. Even though we don't remember many things consciously, there's something in our hidden that can keep and update a single note for each group of our similar reactions. A kind of summary that allows us to know who we are, even if we've forgotten.

Im really scared that I might forget to many parts of my future. That is like having ripped out pages of my book(my life). But you never fully know yourself I think.

Not everyone can be hypermnemonic... Live and let go is one essential philosophical principle. I had a complete amnesia of one traumatic part of my life. It's a self protection of our brain, that permits us to forget the most painful parts of our life. It's a normal work of our brain to filter what we live everyday and to just keep in different memory places what we need in a short, middle or long term. Last, I lived also an ictus phenomena, and at the moment, it's very scary to forget around twelve hours of your recent life. I was thinking that I was becoming mad. The doctor and the neurologist I saw at hospital explained me there was no special causes; that it happens sometimes to men of my age and social situation, and it's essentially caused by non explained stress sources. And that in the long term, it's not so problematic that every stuffs we forget all along our life... 🙄

Insulting people accidentally is regrettable. Politeness in speech is important to maintain during your worst outbursts. So you can be true to yourself and embrace change without trepidation

With any luck, you will remember that you caused no harm as you went.....
