My roommate and close friend is in the ICU. She had an asthma attack that caused her to lose consciousness and stop breathing. She is currently in a "mild" coma and it appears that she may have brain damage cause from a lack of oxygen. These are trying times for the entire household and her family. I have no idea what to think, feel, or say right now. She is 25 and has a 2 year old son who witnessed the whole ordeal. I'm feeling so lost right now.

I'm sorry, are you able to visit her?

For a short time today I was able to visit. That is all I get.

I guess you can just ask her family if there's anything you can do to help, and try to keep yourself busy otherwise.

It's okay to feel lost. It is inevitable when you care for someone. Other people will be feeling lost too, and perhaps you can help them feel less alone.

An update. She has passed on. She was an organ donor and they are starting the donor process.

That's dreadful! How is her family holding up? How are you?

Escape, too soon to tell.

That's very sad. I'll keep some space for you in my thoughts.

I'm sure she was a good friend and person.

Ouch. Sorry to hear, asthma is no joke. Be with the family, you guys need each now in this time. They probably feel the way you do know about what to think feel or say. :-(

The family has lashed out and blamed us, her roommates, for her death. There are circumstances I will not divulge. I know that her family is feeling guilt at this time and are grieving so I will keep my distance. I've been here for her the last three years and the other roommates for the last eight. Her family was barely involved for those years. They need time to deal with their loss without our involvement.

rico, :-( Asthma is often something you have for life. :-( Ouch, wish I had something to say.

B Samson [WildFyre], yes, she had severe asthma as does her mother. She was as stubborn as her mother and refused to go to the ER for treatment until the last possible moment. My roommate that called for the ambulance said that the daughter was scared for her life when she finally called out for her to call for an ambulance.
