A simple culture lens guide from me (a bachelor of arts). If you want to know more about painters and know how to tell Rogier van der Weyden from Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec - read it on! Part 1 of 3.
MAMMOTHS. Religion and icons, icons and religion.
RENAISSANCE. Less religion, but still there a little bit, everybody is very sad, sublime and suffering. More concentrated on human beings and also some ancient culture. There were 4 stages in Renaissance, but in common it began in the 13th-14th century and lasted till the end of the 16th century.
BAROQUE. 16th-18th centuries. Italy is a cultural center of Europe, but there's a lack of money in the country. Nobility and church want to have some attention, and figure out, that it could be done with the help of a new cultural style. Everything gets fancier, more naked and highlighted big bodies appear on the paintings.
In the next part, you will discover more about rococo, classicism, romanticism and realism painters.
